“Never Say I Didn’t Bring You Flowers” è un saggio/racconto di Jane Eaton Hamilton che racconta un matrimonio violento nel quale l’autrice è stata vittima di violenze fisiche e verbali da parte della compagna. Ci sono capitata per caso facendo ricerca sugli abusi domestici nella coppie queer.

This is what I did with her violence when I was alone: I added it up — made charts — to see how much of it there was, relative to homework and cooking and sleeping and doing laundry and watching TV and celebrating occasions and ferrying kids and gardening and dancing — and stuff, you know — and it was less than one percent. 90% of the time, we were glowing: engaged, productive, tickled with each other; 9% of the time, we were like any long-term couple, a little inert, unexcited with each other; and only one percent of the time did things go topsy.
Jane Eaton Hamilton è una scrittrice, saggista, poetessa e fotografa canadese nata del 1954, lo stesso anno di mia madre. “Hamilton”, questo il nome che usa, è queer e si riferisce a sé stessa con il they/their. Tra il 2000 e il 2003 Hamilton e la compagna (e poi moglie) sono state parte civile insieme ad altre coppie in un processo contro il governo canadese per il riconoscimento del matrimonio tra persone dello stesso sesso.
